Aviation & Flight Training at Our Summer Camp

Our Dublin program is designed for teenagers aged 15–17 who are passionate about aviation and curious about a future in the world of flight. In partnership with the National Flight Centre Aviation Academy, students experience a unique combination of ground school, simulator training, and real flight lessons.
Across the two-week program, students complete 7 hours of ground school, 2 hours of glass-cockpit simulator training, and 30–40 minutes of real flight time, supported by pre- and post-flight briefings.
Students also take part in an airport tour covering the control tower, hangars, Search & Rescue facilities, and other behind-the-scenes areas. The program introduces students to different pathways in aviation, from becoming a pilot to exploring careers across the wider aviation industry. At the end of the program, students receive their NFC Wings graduation badge and certificate, celebrating their achievements throughout the aviation experience.
Food at Our Dublin Summer Camp

Great food helps keep students energized throughout their aviation training and a full day of activities.
Students staying at St Patrick’s University, Maynooth are provided with full-board accommodation and daily meals, with meals designed to give students the energy they need for lessons, flight training, excursions, and activities.
Dietary requirements and special meal requests can be accommodated where possible with advance notice. Please let us know about any dietary requirements before arrival so appropriate arrangements can be made.
Accommodation at Our Dublin Summer Camp

Students stay at St Patrick’s University, Maynooth, giving them the opportunity to experience life in a university environment while taking part in the Sol Camps program.
Accommodation is provided in twin rooms, with full-board accommodation and daily meals included. The university setting provides a welcoming base for students throughout their two-week aviation experience.
With aviation training, activities, and excursions taking place throughout the program, students have the opportunity to experience both university life and an exciting summer in Ireland.
Activities at Our Dublin Summer Camp

At Sol Camps Dublin, the experience goes beyond aviation training. Afternoons and evenings are filled with activities designed to help students explore Dublin, connect with their classmates, and make friends from around the world.
Students can take part in Sol Games, Sol Olympics, Croke Park Skyline Tour, GAA Museum, Aviation Dragons' Den, Aviation Movie Night, Talent Show, Mini-Amazing Race, and more. Weekend excursions give students the chance to discover some of Ireland's most exciting attractions, including Dublin City, Viking Splash, Dublin Zoo, Emerald Park, Trinity College, and Temple Bar. Students can also enjoy social evenings such as karaoke, disco night, quiz night, and a campfire with s'mores.
From the classroom and flight simulator to exploring Dublin with new friends, every part of the program is designed to make the summer both educational and unforgettable.

Booking, Arrival & Departure
When are check-in and check-out?
Check-in and check-out are typically on Sundays, unless alternative arrangements have been agreed in advance. For overnight bookings, airport transfers are included and arranged by Sol Camps.
Can I arrive or depart on a different day?
Alternative arrival and departure dates may be considered on a case-by-case basis. For individual bookings, Saturday arrivals are possible with an additional one-night fee. Please note that discounts are not available for shortening the duration of your stay. For group bookings, non-Sunday arrivals or departures must be discussed and confirmed in advance.
Is airport transportation included?
Yes. Airport transfers are included with overnight bookings and are arranged by the Sol Camps team.

Courses & Learning
What is the class size?
The Aviation Camp is limited to 20 students per session. This small-group format allows students to take part in aviation training, simulator sessions, flight lessons, and workshops in a focused learning environment.
What do students study during the program?
The program focuses exclusively on aviation training. Students take part in ground school, glass-cockpit simulator training, real flight lessons, aviation workshops, and airport experiences throughout the two-week program.
How much time do students spend in aviation training?
Aviation training takes place primarily in the mornings, including ground school, simulator sessions, and flight lessons. Afternoons and evenings are dedicated to activities, excursions, and experiences around Dublin, giving students a balance of aviation training, adventure, and social time.

Staff, Safety & Safeguarding
Who provides the aviation training?
The aviation program is delivered in partnership with the National Flight Centre - Pilot Academy at Weston Airport. Students learn from qualified and experienced aviation instructors in a professional flight training environment, receiving expert guidance throughout their ground school, simulator training, and real flight lessons.
What qualifications and checks do activity staff have?
Our Activity Leaders are responsible, attentive, and engaging, with a wide range of professional and personal experience. Staff are carefully selected and matched to roles according to their skills and experience. As part of our recruitment and onboarding process, appropriate background checks are conducted, and staff hold First Aid certification where required.
How does Sol Camps keep students safe?
Safeguarding is a fundamental part of our approach to working with young people. All staff receive guidance on appropriate professional boundaries and are expected to follow our safeguarding policies, procedures, and applicable regulations. We also have procedures designed to minimize situations where staff may be alone with students and to ensure appropriate oversight and accountability. Residential areas are designated by gender, with appropriate staffing arrangements in place.

Accommodation
Are student rooms single or shared?
- Dublin: Twin rooms in iconic Gothic Revival buildings on the south campus. Each bedroom has a wash-hand basin and shaver light, with shared bathroom facilities located on each corridor section.
Accommodation options may be subject to change.
Can I request a specific room or roommate?
Sol Camps assigns student rooms. You are welcome to submit a room or roommate request, but we cannot guarantee that every request can be accommodated.
Can parents stay in the student residence?
Parents are generally not permitted to stay in student accommodation. If there are exceptional circumstances, please contact the Sol Camps team to discuss your situation.

Activities & Free Time
Are activities compulsory?
Students are encouraged to participate in all Sol Camps activities. If a student is unable or unwilling to participate in a particular activity, the request can be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. If approved, the student will need to remain on campus.
Can the activity schedule change?
We aim to follow the published activity schedule, but activities and schedules may change due to unforeseen circumstances or local conditions.
How do students travel to activities?
Transportation depends on the destination and activity. Students may travel on foot, by public transportation such as trains or buses, or by school-provided bus.
Can students leave campus during free time?
Students may spend their free time in their rooms or classrooms but cannot leave campus unaccompanied. For short trips, such as visiting a convenience store, a staff member will accompany them.

Phones & Communication
Are students allowed to use smartphones?
Yes. Smartphones are allowed at Sol Camps, and WhatsApp is used for communication between staff and students. However, smartphones are generally not permitted during lessons unless the teacher gives permission.

Meals & Cooking Facilities
What meals are provided?
Students receive adequate portions and a variety of meal options throughout the program. In Ireland, students can choose from a variety of food options and return for additional servings if needed.
Are microwaves, kettles, or cooking facilities available?
Cooking facilities are not guaranteed. Where available, cooking appliances may generally only be used under staff supervision. Access varies by destination and is subject to local safety requirements.

International Community
How diverse are Sol Camps?
We value an international student community and make every effort to maintain a balanced mix of nationalities. Where possible, we aim to limit any single nationality to approximately 30% of the student population. The exact mix varies by destination and session and can be affected by factors such as global events and travel trends.
Which nationalities attend Sol Camps?
Our students have come from more than 34 countries, including Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Mexico, Poland, Spain, France, Italy, Ukraine, Türkiye, Morocco, Armenia, Thailand, Taiwan, South Korea, Japan, Rwanda, Kenya, and Guadeloupe.

Individual Students & Group Leaders
Can individual students join a group?
Absolutely. Individual students are fully integrated into the program alongside students traveling as part of a group. Classes typically have around 15 students and are organized according to English level and course. Students generally stay with the same group for classes and activities, while activities also provide opportunities to meet students from other classes and make new friends.
What is the role of a group leader?
Group leaders are responsible for supporting the students in their group and are expected to be active participants in the Sol Camps program. They attend a weekly Monday meeting to review the week's schedule, raise any concerns, and coordinate special arrangements. Group leaders also help students understand camp rules and expectations and should communicate any significant concerns about a student's well-being, behavior, or participation to the Sol Camps team.

Additional Support & Accessibility
Can students with additional needs attend Sol Camps?
We assess individual circumstances to determine whether we can provide the appropriate level of support. We are generally able to accommodate students with ADHD and ADD. For other learning, developmental, or mental health conditions, an individual assessment is required to determine whether suitable support can be provided. Accessibility also varies by destination, and some venues may not be fully accessible for students who use wheelchairs. Please discuss accessibility requirements with us before booking so we can explore suitable arrangements.
Can students below the minimum age join?
Requests may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Fees & Payment
What are the payment deadlines?
A 20% deposit is generally required to secure a place at Sol Camps. For early-bird rates, the 20% deposit is required by January 1, 2027. Full payment is due by May 28, 2027.
How much spending money should students bring?
Sol Camps is an all-inclusive program, so students do not technically need spending money. However, students may wish to have some money for souvenirs, snacks, or shopping. As a general guideline, we recommend:
- Ireland: €100–150 per week
Parents can provide an amount that suits their child's individual needs. Students are responsible for keeping their money safe, and we recommend avoiding carrying large amounts of cash at one time.
